about

Came to be from my interest in Jazz and traditional folk tunes. Lazarus is a chain gang song with some new lyrics. The cord progression was inspired by a John Coltrane piece.

lyrics

Well the High Sheriff, Told the deputy,
Go out and bring me Lazarus.
Well the High Sheriff, Told the deputy,
Go out and bring me Lazarus.
Bring him dead or alive, Bring him dead or alive.
Well the deputy, begin to wonder,
Just where in the world he would find him.
Well the deputy, begin to wonder,
Just where in the world he would find him.
I just don’t know, I don’t know.

Well where they, they found him,
They found him up between two mountains.
Well where they, they found him,
They found him up between two mountains.
And they blowed him down, woe, blowed him down.

When a woman, holds a man,
It’s so hard to let him go.
When a woman, holds a man,
It’s so hard to let him go.
She can feel him close, after he’s gone.

Well Lazarus’ poor mother,
Well she couldn’t go to the funeral.
Well Lazarus’ poor mother,
Well she couldn’t go to the funeral.
She didn’t have no shoes, no oh she didn’t have no shoes
